I've spent many hours on trying to figure out a way to make content, such as that obtain as part of CEBUG's Vendor News Program, available via our site. At this point, I see no choice but to go back to the method I've used in the past with the best success. That is, to simply forward those messages as they are received on to members. Here is a mini-FAQ I've prepared on this subject:
What do I do to receive message forwards from the Vendor News List?
Members in good standing should log into CEBUG's site, and make a reply to this message thread. Such messages will ONLY be forwarded to members in good standing who have indicated they want them on our forum. (Best way I know to follow principles of opt-in/opt-out practices.)
How do I stop those message forwards?
Simply send me an e-mail requesting those messages stop, or post a notice to that effect on our forum.
How will messages be forwarded?
Both plain-text & HTML messages will be forwarded as-is with no changes at all. Needless to say, I will not forward any message flagged by tools on my system as being potentially hazardous or not deemed suitable by CEBUG standards. (There is a private message area within our forum open to members where we discuss Vendor News submissions.)
What about newsletters from other user groups, or PDF order forms coming from vendors?
I was not planning on forwarding anything that would have a message attachment at this time. IMO, those should be shared via the member-only areas of our forum so as to reduce message traffic within our members' mailboxes.
Is there a risk some of those message forwards could be blocked?
Yes, and there's not much I can do about that problem as this most likely occurs at the ISP level. (Filters in use by the ISP blocking legitmate message traffic.)
How will I know if messages are being blocked?
Hard to say, as few ISP's these days notify anyone (message sendor or recipient) about bounced or blocked messages. What I can do, to offset this risk, is publish a short summary every month on our forum as to how many messages I had forwarded to members. If, for example, you come to the forum and see that I had forwarded 10 messages in a given month but you had gotten only 4 then it is clear some of those messages were blocked.
What should I do if my messages are being blocked?
Assuming the blockage was not caused by a filtering system under your own control (more on that below), you will need to contact your ISP to find out why messages coming from CEBUG's domain (www.cebug.org) are being blocked. I am following established opt-in/opt-out practices by requiring members to indicated they WANT those messages, so it is clear I am not acting as a spam sender.
What should I do within my own filtering systems?
The method for approving messages coming from specific addresses vary, so I cannot provide step-by-step directions. Look for a 'friends' list, or 'white' list of some kind, and make sure the two addresses I use to reach members: pres at cebug dot org and vnews at cebug dot org are included. (The later being the one I will use for sending out those Vendor News forwards.) Eventually, I want us to have a list of some kind that will be run from our site to perform this same task that I am now doing manually.
Hope this clarifies things as much as they can be at this point, and provides help where needed!
