Conflicts within Notifications
An issue with the Notifications system was recently detected where notices about new or updated content were not going out as expected. Even worse, the settings within most users accounts for existing subscriptions were obviously messed up. The cause of the problem has been traced to a recent update when integration between the Private Messaging subsystem and Notifications was activated. To avoid such conflicts in the future, the Private Messaging system will be limited to allow one-on-one conversations between users only.
I have manually checked thru all active accounts and restored the default 'sending' method to Mail. This will mean regular, plain-text notices should be sent out. Those with control over their subscriptions may alter this setting to Web, which will provide such notices upon their next login. (Suppresses e-mail notifications completely.) To alter this setting, login and click on the My Account link showing in the main navigation menu under your username in the left-hand column. Click on the Notifications tab, and then Subscriptions. When there, some of you may notice options for the new notification types now being tested. These are: XMPP (integration with a variety of web services) and Twitter. It is by no means clear if these options are setup correctly yet, so feedback is GREATLY appreciated!
