Multimedia Providers Adobe Wowza Going to Court
Those involved in multimedia productions are sure to be watching the court actions between Adobe and Wowza with interest. At issue is a copyright infringement claimed by Adobe with the technologies used by Wowza's media servers. Specifically infringing on Adobe's Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) and Encrypted RTMP (RTMPe) patents. Wowza's lawyers have shot with proof that founders David Stubenvoll and Charlie Good—both former Adobe employees—had left Adobe prior to it's aquistion of Macromedia which held those patents. Insiders to the multimedia industry note that the fact Adobe has waited 5 years after the launch of Wowza to actually file this suit to be the only surprising point. As to who will win? Hard to say at this point, but it should prove to be an interesting court case to watch.
