Certain subscriptions are required for all registered persons, though some settings can be adjusted to suit individual preferences. For example, by default all subscriptions are set to the Mail setting. This will trigger short, plain-text notices sent by e-mail to the account holder's address of record. To read the full-body of longer postings someone will have to follow the links provided to our site to read the actual page. Other notification types are available, with new options added as they are tested and found to work. More details on options users may adjust - including the Interval setting - can be found within the Notifications Overview. The following is a brief description of required subscriptions and settings:
- Announcements - All registered persons are required to have this subscription to the Announcements section of our Forum. This is where important notices about changes in our organization's policies and rules will appear. With the critical nature of such notices, we consider it essential that everyone see and read those in a timely manner. For this reason the Interval for this subscription must stay as Immediate. Users in roles allowing subscription control may change their notification type. Although our site is in a constant state of change as it grows and evolves, we do expect traffic in this section to remain low.
- Events - Most registered users will also be required to have a subscription to our Event postings. These are notices about upcoming presentations we sponsor that are either in-person meetings at a local location or web seminars. Frequency of postings should be only a few per month, though notices are also sent out when someone changes an Event listing. For example, if there is a topic change because the listed speaker becomes unavailable, the listing is updated to reflect that. Persons who are Contributing Authors or registered Sponsors are exempted from this subscription; although they have the option to do so of their own volition. Users in roles allowing subscription control may adjust both their Interval and Notification type settings.
